World’s Biggest Concert Explained

Every year millions of people gather at Rio’s Copacabana Beach for the world’s biggest New Year’s celebration. The 2.5 mile-long beach sees visitors dressed in white blending African rituals and local culture. Brazilians pay homage to Lemanja, the goddess of the sea. In addition to the white, red symbolizing romance, green for good health, and yellow/gold for prosperity.

Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on New Year’s Eve 1994 saw the largest audience of 3.5 to 4.2 million attendees gathered at the beach to celebrate the new year. Check out the full video of the performance below.
