SubDocta demolishes expectations with highly anticipated four-track Cataclysmic EP, released via WAKAAN
Preston Charles, professionally known as SubDocta, caught the music scene by storm in 2017 with his successful single “2009 Was Tight.” SubDocta has entrenched his own brand of dubstep and hybrid music known as “West Coast Wobble,” paying tribute to his west coast of the US roots. Throughout his career, SubDocta has performed alongside some of the biggest names in dubstep. From sold out shows with Ganja White Night, supporting Riot Ten on his “Hype or Die” tour, to supporting on Excision’s 2019 tour, Subdocta has established himself as a major presence in the bass scene. Over the years SubDocta has secured headline festival performances across the country, including Forbidden Kingdom, Lost Lands, High Caliber, Dancefestopia, and WAKAAN, to name a few.
Last month, SubDocta, alongside WAKAAN veteran Shlump, dropped the lead single, “Cavern Dub,” off his forthcoming EP. Continuing his 2021 hot streak of new music, SubDocta’s four-track Cataclysmic EP has officially hit platforms. With the addition of two crushing solo productions and one wobble-loaded collaboration with FLY, Cataclysmic lives up to the hype.
The Cataclysmic EP’s lead track of the same name is a solo production by SubDocta with rhythmic elements of drum & bass. The energetic nature of the titular track differs from the others, however it still encapsulates the sinister tone to follow. The second track “Acrylic Prism,” a collaborative effort with FLY, employs signature wobbly bass lines over the eerie atmosphere. SubDocta adds another solo track to the mix with “Run It,” ramping up the aggressiveness in the music while still finding ways to incorporate melodic features. With orchestral string instruments providing the melodic material in the intro, listeners are not prepared for the “cataclysmic” drop. “Run It” is definitely a favorite amongst this massive EP. With “Cavern Dub” alongside Shlump being released in July, Subdocta offered great insight of what was to come. Featuring reggae infused wubz, “Cavern Dub” took listeners deep into the bass world once it hit platform.
If you are in need of a SubDocta fix after this colossal EP, catch him live in select cities as support for Boogie T’s Out Of The Woods Tour and at Wobble Rocks in Colorado.
Cataclysmic EP was released on August 20th, 2021, with WAKAAN bringing another set of incredible music.
