From RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s Rose Avenue Records comes a fresh new release from their latest signing, Luke Alessi. The eclectic artist drops a two track EP Scuze Me, with the titular track first played at RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s sold out Brooklyn Mirage DJ set earlier this summer. The sultry groover sent fans scouring the internet for the unreleased track in multiple Reddit threads here! A resounding bass-line subtly oscillates through various timbres while a crisp drum groove propels the track forward. Warping synths and a simple yet infectious hook adorn the atmosphere. Next, “XCountry” is an absolute ear worm with its dynamic bass-line, poignant synths and array of textures. Both tracks deliver a comprehensive sonic journey through 6-7 minutes worth of lively and engaging music.
Regarding the artistic inspiration for the new EP, Alessi shares:
After laying down the bass-line and groove for “Scuze Me” I spent the next few hours wrestling with different synthesizers to try and come up with a decent hook (to no avail). Getting a little frustrated I decided to take a break to clean the house and finish the Tiga podcast I was listening to (anyone that knows me I’m a massive Tiga fan). After all the dishes were clean I walked back into the studio to work on the track and looked at my dusty microphone and thought “hmmm why don’t I try messing around with some vocals like Tiga would?”. It was my first foray into original vocals on my music before but I thought it could at least get my inspiration going again. I ended up just saying the first thing that came to my head and after about 5 minutes I had the hook to the track. The rest just fell into place after that.”
More about Luke Alessi
“A fine balance between ruthless functionality & experimentalism,” Luke Alessi says of his current creative output.
Influenced from an array of different styles, Luke’s music sits in its own lane. Instead, intentionally blurring the lines between house, electro, indie dance, afro, prog & techno via synth lines that bend your mind, hooks that get stuck in your head for days and underlying, funky grooves that keep your body locked in on the dance floor.
Striving to create music that’s designed to take you elsewhere, it’s no surprise to see his tracks circulating the rounds of ID groups. The past year has seen him release two EPs with Mobilee, one on Buttress Recordings and a remix for RÜFÜS DU SOL on their Surrender remix album. While receiving support from Dino Lenny, John Digweed, Magdalena, Black Coffee, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Musumeci, Hernan Cattaneo and more.
