Today, Mathame release their highly anticipated debut album MEMO, via Astralwerks. The Italian-brother duo compose a 13-track interstellar journey through the human experience and divine realms. The journey was hinted at through the previous releases of “Feel Your Ghost” with Tiesto, “To Hope,” “Come For You,” and “So What.” Now, the album finally comes to fruition and opens up the world to the mesmerizing sound of Mathame.

MEMO is the auditory journey of Mathame’s career over the past three years. In doing so, they cross boundaries and transcend genres for an all encompassing and varied offering. There is no one way to classify this album as each track offers unique insight to their sound. “Unreality” with Small Black sees the brothers venture into dark and introspective territories while “Dance To Death” fills the air with euphoric and transfixing rhythms. Then the pulsating techno club returns in “The Doors”with Bishop and “Believe” with Camelphat but dissipates with the melancholic tone of “Run Boy.” “Tomorrow” with Cold Weather Company creates a sense of yearning while “Back Home” with Damien Jurado calms the mind. Through MEMO, Mathame display their multi-faceted sound while highlighting emotions and experiences.

Speaking on the project, the duo share:

MEMO is a device that allows us to recall our experiences from the past three years, comparable to a black box for flights. All the tracks have different stories, some of the tracks took one day to create, others took months. When there was something that we felt was meaningful and emotional to say, we collected these ideas. The full album as a result is a cinema-esque journey through our memories of making the record.”

In addition to their productions, Mathame are at the forefront of the cinematic techno scene. With their live Audio Visual (AV) show they are able to transport audiences to new worlds. The immersive experiences meld with their intricately crafted soundscapes for shows unlike ever before. Certainly on my bucket list of live shows to experience, and with MEMO now out, audiences are in for transformative visual and auditory journeys.
