Hard Techno’s Hard Reckoning

Shlømo, Basswell, Fantasm, CARV, and Odymel Face Serious Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Hard techno has always loved a bit of darkness — dim warehouses, pounding kicks, silhouettes moving at 150 BPM like it’s cardio with a strobe light. But this week, the mood shifted. The shadows aren’t aesthetic anymore. They’re uncomfortable.

A series of sexual abuse and misconduct allegations have surfaced online against several prominent names in the hard techno circuit, sending the scene into a rapid, very public recalibration. The accusations involve artists including Shlømo, Basswell, Fantasm, CARV, and Odymel, catching fire when former booking agent Brad — known online as Bradnolimit — publicly accused several of the prominent hard techno DJs listed of sexual misconduct. His brave claims allege sexual abuse, grooming of underage girls, and sexual assault involving multiple artists. The accusations have since been echoed and examined by outlets including Change-Underground and DJ Mag Germany, amplifying the reach and seriousness of the conversation.

At the time of writing, these claims remain allegations. There have been no publicly confirmed criminal convictions tied to the accusations, and any potential investigations — legal or otherwise — are ongoing or unconfirmed. That distinction matters. In 2026, however, it doesn’t stop consequences from unfolding at Wi-Fi speed.

Promoters reacted fast. Lineups were edited. Names quietly disappeared from festival posters. Replacement acts were announced with the efficiency of a well-timed drop. Booking agency Steer Management confirmed suspensions and internal reviews, signaling that the industry was not going to let the conversation linger unresolved.

In electronic music, reputation is currency — and it fluctuates quickly.

The artists’ responses have varied. Some have issued direct denials, calling the claims defamatory. Others have acknowledged inappropriate personal behavior while rejecting allegations of non-consent. One defense referenced sexsomnia, a sleep-related condition involving sexual behavior, which only intensified online debate. Social media, as expected, split into camps: those demanding permanent removal from the scene and those urging caution and due process.

In addition, individuals claiming to be victims have come forward with screenshots of alleged predatory text messages, which have been widely shared across platforms. As with much of the evidence circulating online, verification is complex, and journalists and observers alike are navigating the fine line between reporting claims and confirming facts.

Somewhere between the comment sections and official statements lies a larger, less reactive question: what does accountability look like in nightlife culture?

Hard techno, like much of electronic music, operates in spaces where access, admiration, intoxication, and power intersect. The DJ booth isn’t just a platform; it’s a pedestal. And with pedestal status comes an imbalance that the industry has historically struggled to address head-on. The current moment suggests that patience for ignoring those imbalances is thinning.

This isn’t the first time dance music has faced allegations of misconduct among its ranks. But it does feel like another step in a broader reckoning — one where fans, promoters, and artists are less willing to separate the art from the artist without asking hard questions first.

As it stands, investigations and fact-finding are still developing. No final legal determinations have been announced publicly. The scene remains in a holding pattern: music still blasting, but conversations growing louder offstage.

Hard techno prides itself on intensity and forward momentum. Yet sometimes growth requires pause — a break in the rhythm to reassess the structure.

For a genre built on pressure, this might be its most defining test: not how hard the drop hits, but how seriously the culture takes what happens when the lights come back on.
