Red Rocks Amphitheatre is more than just a venue—it’s an iconic destination that combines natural beauty with world-class performances. Whether you’re a local that’s been before or a newbie visiting from out of town, here’s my top tips from my experiences so you can elevate yours!
Getting There
Getting to Red Rocks can be part of the adventure. Carpooling is highly recommended (and it’s more fun to ride with friends), and if you’re a designated driver, you’ll appreciate the reward of a free soda. Just let a staff member serving drinks know you are the DD and have your driver’s license number ready to show them.
The North Upper Lot is the best entrance, offering proximity and ease of access – you’ll be walking down the stairs, rather than walking up them, which can feel like quite the workout for those not used to the combination of steep stairs/altitude. The upper lot is a prime spot for pre-show tailgates, complete with public bathrooms nearby (outside the venue). For those who prefer not to drive, shuttle services run from Denver at a cost of $65 round trip, making multiple stops across the city. Renting a car is another option for out-of-town visitors.
Get there early! Parking spots and the GA section is first come first serve. You’ll also want to catch the iconic Red Rocks sunset, a breathtaking prelude to the night. This is the perfect time for photos—the bleachers with the stage in the background or the rocks outside the venue provide stunning backdrops.

What to Bring
Be prepared so you can enjoy your time at Red Rocks. The temperature can drop significantly at night, and sometimes the winds can pick up, so dressing in layers is a must. Rain, snow, or hail rarely cancel shows at the venue, so check the weather in advance and bring a poncho, gloves, warmers, etc to be safe.
Comfortable shoes are essential, as you’ll likely be walking the stairs, and of course, dancing! The bleachers allow you to sit, but the majority of people stand, unless you’re closer to the top. General Admission seating allows you to lay down a blanket and kick off your shoes for a more relaxed vibe. I must say, this was a game changer!
While the venue offers food, it’s not known for its culinary excellence, so bringing snacks can be a lifesaver. The acoustics of Red Rocks amplify sound beautifully, but EDM shows in particular can get loud, so consider bringing earplugs to protect your hearing from the heavy bass.
Seating Options
Seating at Red Rocks provides fantastic views from nearly every angle, but certain spots stand out depending on the experience you’re seeking. GA seating immerses you in the high-energy vibes and and gives you the flexibility to choose yor own seating & views. Reserved seating guarantees a spot but may not have the same thrill.
The best row at Red Rocks is subjective and depends on your preferences. However, rows 1-20 are generally considered ideal for sound and proximity to the stage, while the upper rows offer a unique perspective and a panoramic view of the landscape. The middle rows, particularly around Row 50, offer balanced views and quicker access to food, drinks, and restrooms. If you know you’ll need frequent trips to the bar or bathroom, side seats are a convenient choice.
Don’t forget to look around during the show—artists often project visuals or logos onto the surrounding rocks, adding another layer of magic to the performance.

Exploring the Venue
Navigating Red Rocks is part of the experience, but here are some of my recommendations. Bathrooms and merchandise lines are generally shorter near the front of the venue, on stage left. The Visitor Center and Museum are open year-round, showcasing the venue’s rich history with memorabilia from legendary acts like The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. This definitely worth checking out if you’ve a first timer! Food and drink options are your classic concessions like nachos, hot dogs, and popcorn, so don’t expect anything too special. Alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine, and mixed drinks, are available at multiple locations throughout the venue and are your average alcohol price for a concert venue.
Concert Etiquette
Concert etiquette at Red Rocks reflects the unity and respect that define EDM culture. Practicing PLUR – Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect – is essential. Be courteous when navigating crowds, always saying “excuse me” and respecting others’ space. While blankets and pashminas can be used to claim spots in the GA section, avoid hogging large areas, especially at sold out shows where a large attendance is expected.
Gum is prohibited, and it’s crucial to keep the venue clean by properly disposing of trash and avoiding smoking in non-designated areas. Red Rocks is a natural treasure. Leave no trace (and ensure others to do so as well) to ensure its the amphitheatre’s beauty remains intact for future visitors.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drinking enough water is especially important at Red Rocks, as the venue’s elevation of over 6,400 feet can make you feel winded more easily. The venue sells water and camelbacks are allowed and can save you time by reducing trips to the water refill stations. Free refill stations are available, but lines can get long, so plan accordingly.
Exiting the Venue
As any other venue, exiting Red Rocks requires a bit of patience. The North Upper Lot is the easiest and most scenic option, offering less congestion and a downhill walk to your car. Traffic can be slow, especially if you’re using rideshare services, so consider planning a DD, pre-booking a shuttle, or a party bus for convenience. There are usually drivers standing around the lower lots offering rides, but be prepared to pay a premium rate.
Keep in mind that shows end by midnight due to city ordinances, so plan to drop your party favors and/or plan your post-show activities with this curfew in mind.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is more than a venue—it’s an experience that blends natural beauty with electrifying performances. The rock formations are stunning, the acoustics are incredible, and the energy of the place will stay with you long after the show. With thoughtful preparation and a positive mindset, you’re guaranteed an unforgettable night at one of the most iconic music destinations in the world. Check out their full schedule here.
