In a year already marked by staggering milestones, rising bass music phenom Tape B has dropped his long-awaited EP, Distortion Theory. A dynamic eight-track journey through intricate sound design, cinematic basslines, and cutting-edge collaborations, this project solidifies Tape B’s status as one of electronic music’s most exciting and versatile artists.
Tape B launched his fall tour in September, treating fans to exclusive previews of the EP and unreleased live tracks. The lead single, Nocturnal, released on November 20, sets the tone for the EP’s raw energy. Teaming up with enigmatic dubstep act VKTM, the track premiered live at Lost Lands, leaving the festival crowd buzzing with anticipation. The full EP expands on this momentum, blending nostalgia with forward-thinking production techniques that define Tape B’s signature “Old School x New School” aesthetic.
A Year of Unprecedented Momentum
2024 has been a career-defining year for Tape B. Kicking off with Trippy Land, a genre-blurring collaboration with Mersiv and Juicy J, he’s maintained an unrelenting pace with over 30 sold-out headline shows across the U.S. and collaborations with heavyweights like Ganja White Night and John Summit. His Gas Pedal Remix with Subtronics became a fan fave, and his streaming numbers have skyrocketed, nearing 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
This year also saw the launch of Tape B’s curated block parties, blending his nostalgic sound with a modern twist, leaving fans craving more. With a growing global following and a relentless commitment to innovation, Tape B continues to redefine bass music while fostering a vibrant community of fans.
Distortion Theory: A Bass-Driven Adventure
The EP serves as both a reflection of Tape B’s artistic evolution and a love letter to the dubstep genre. Highlights include:
- “Backspin Bass”: A high-energy opener designed to electrify any stage.
- “I Won’t Be Ur Drug VIP”: A reinvented gem from 2022’s A Dose of Nostalgia, showcasing Tape B’s growth in production.
- “U Know What I’m Talkin About?”: A genre-defying mix of choral and hip-hop elements with futuristic soundscapes.
- “Back to the Dust” feat. PAV4N: A gritty fusion of rap and dubstep.
- “Someone to Hold” feat. Dani King: A heartfelt closer that balances ethereal melodies with bass-driven intensity.
This is an ode to Hallow Tapes, and kinda like a second version of it. it was supposed to come out on Halloween but it wasn’t ready in time and we didn’t want to rush anything. This EP feels like a great representation of where I’m at with music production at the moment. Some of these songs are a couple years old but I have been making different versions of them up until now so that I’m able to release a version that I’m truly happy with. This was my first time working with vocalists on my own and it was such a cool experience. Huge shoutout to PAV4N and Dani King for working on these tunes with me! My main goal for next year is to work with a lot more vocalists and get out of my comfort zone with composition. The track list is structured in a way where it sounds like you’re listening to a Tape B set. It starts with my most energetic tunes and gradually gets more vibey as the ep progresses. Overall, this EP is supposed to be the essence of fall season and capture the feeling of nostalgia and what fall feels and sounds like to me, I hope y’all enjoy.” — Tape B
