Think technicolor peacocks strutting through a neon jungle, their feathers shimmering like a thousand disco balls on fire. This is Elrow.
The global phenomenon is bringing its immersive party experience to Netflix- or so we thought. Self-proclaimed as the “craziest party in the world”, Elrow took to Instagram this week to prank their millions of followers with a fictitious documentary casting that sounded a little too good to be true.
For those unaquianted with the Spanish event organizer, Elrow prides themselves on being a musical family with a history that dates back over 150 years. “Aliens [are] welcome and anything goes,” their website states. Elrow seeks to create an unforgettable party experience with their futuristic and exotic themes ranging from “The Enchanged Forst” and “Rowlympic Games”, to their most recent one, “Dance with the Serpent”. Since eloping in Ibiza, Elrow has made waves across the globe, hosting events and festivals in almost every continent (except Antartica).
Elrow’s timely announcement came on Día de los Santos Inocentes (Day of the Holy Innocents), which is basically the Spanish equivalent of April Fool’s Day. While the holiday is observed annually on December 28th, many of their followers fell for the trap. In a playful, but ultimately fictitious, gesture, Elrow CEO Juan Arnau Jr. launched the ‘casting call’ by inviting 1,000 fans to experience upcoming events at insane locations like the Atacama Desert, Victoria Falls, and the Colosseum, with all expenses covered.
On Friday (December 29th), the Elrow team took to social media once again to discuss the Netflix documentary, but this time to admit that it was indeed a joke. Some Instagram users laughed and admitted they fell for it, while others were not happy about it. One user even expressed that it was an “evil way to steal data from people”.
Don’t worry, there’s still other ways to get your Elrow fix. In the upcoming months, the Spanish party giant will be hosting events around the world- from Spain to Brazil to Indonesia.
