In an electrifying fusion of talent, New Zealand’s electronic bass luminaries Opiuo and Ashez are set to drop their highly anticipated single “Underground” on May 31st. This release serves as a prelude to their collaborative EP, slated for release next month.

The collaboration between Opiuo, known for his genre-defying productions and energetic performances, and Ashez, a rising star in the electronic bass scene, was sparked by none other than the renowned bass goddess CloZee. The synergy between the two artists was palpable from their initial meeting, leading to the creation of a track that promises to be a hallmark in the bass music scene. Following “Bash Plate” and “Candy,” two other exhilarating tracks from the duo, “Underground” is a unique auditory experience, highlighting the seamless synergy and creative prowess of these two artists.

“Underground” opens with a mystical melody that gradually builds, setting the stage for the intricate and captivating leads that follow. As the track progresses, listeners are enveloped in a soundscape marked by pulsating bass drops and a dynamic interplay of rhythms. The track’s core vocal phrase, “this is the wave of the underground,” serves as a powerful mantra, leading into a climactic call-and-response segment. This portion of the track is particularly gripping, as the artists’ use of pulsating bass hits creates a visceral experience that resonates with listeners.

The collaboration showcases the distinctive strengths of both Opiuo and Ashez. Opiuo’s expertise in blending various electronic genres shines through in the track’s innovative structure and sound design. Ashez brings his own flair, adding depth and complexity to the bass elements. Together, they create a track that is both a nod to the underground bass scene and a forward-thinking exploration of new sonic territories.

Me and Ashez have been very close for years now. We met via our good friend Clozee (I heard his music while staying at her house one time) and I was instantly like “who is THIS?!”. I played a couple of his songs in my set (I rarely play anyone but my own) and instantly wanted to connect and collaborate. After some internet sessions we met in real life and the creativity just flowed seamlessly. I’m so proud of this music. It’s more moody, and a little darker, but that’s what a good collaboration should be, a bit of both of you mashed into something fresh and new. I’m so happy to finally share this music with everyone! There’s nothing more beautiful & rewarding than writing music with friends!”  – Opiuo

The underground bass community, as well as newcomers to the electronic bass scene, have much to look forward to with the release of “Underground” and the upcoming EP. This collaboration not only highlights the individual talents of Opiuo and Ashez but also underscores the vibrant and dynamic nature of New Zealand’s electronic music scene. This release is a testament to the power of collaboration and the boundless possibilities that arise when talented artists come together to create something truly unique. Listen to “Underground” (out now) and prepare for an EP that promises to redefine the electronic bass genre.
